About 

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK) is a central department of the Austrian federal government, based in Vienna. It traditionally combines agricultural and forestry tasks with comprehensive responsibilities in the areas of environment, climate and regional development. With the reorganization and expansion of responsibilities in April 2025, the ministry was realigned to promote sustainable and future-proof development in Austria.

Main tasks

  • Agriculture and forestry: Promotion of sustainable, future-oriented agriculture and forestry, including subsidy processing and agricultural policy
  • Environmental protection: Responsibility for recycling and waste management, chemical safety and the coordination of nature and species protection
  • Climate policy: Development and implementation of measures to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, including the promotion of green finance
  • Regional development: Strengthening rural regions and supporting structural measures for regional competitiveness
  • Water management: Ensuring water quality, flood protection and sustainable use of water resources

The ministry pursues an integrative approach that combines agriculture, environment and climate in order to ensure a liveable and sustainable future for Austria.

    𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄-𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐎 held its bi-annual consortium meeting in Brașov, Romania, between May 18–20, 2026, marking two years since the launch of the project funded by the Horizon Europe Programme and managed by CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.
