Work Package 5
Mainstreaming nature-based solutions platform
Work Package Lead: The University of Rostock – Traditio et Innovatio, Germany
WP5 goes beyond the already planned real-life demonstrators by actively engaging additional infrastructures to replicate the experience gained from NATURE-DEMO. Its objective is to scale and mainstream NbS by leveraging existing knowledge, making the adoption of NbS easier for stakeholders. Through replicating solutions, predominantly - but not only - in the Alpine region, WP5 provides technical and financial guidance to support broader adoption. Stakeholder engagement ensures that replicators benefit from detailed case studies and risk assessments. Additionally, WP5 develops guidelines for integrating NbS into infrastructure planning and policy frameworks, simplifying the adoption process and ensuring long-term sustainability. A Finance Hub will be created to advise on funding models, supporting at least four replicators. The hub will also explore innovative financing methods, such as tokenizing ecosystem services. An expert Task Force will offer ongoing technical expertise and certification programs to facilitate widespread NbS adoption.
Targets of WP5:
- A range of possible replicator sites with analysed use cases, and intent of new stakeholders to adopt NbS, expanding beyond planned demonstrators.
- Step-by-step guideline for integrating NbS into climate-resilient infrastructure and policy frameworks for the European regime.
- Task Force providing online consultations on technical aspects, making replication easier for new infrastructures.
- An independent Finance Hub offering consultations on funding models, supporting NbS implementation through strategic financial guidance.
