Work Package 3

Devise Living Labs and prepare the Nature-based Solutions

Work Package Lead: Technicka Univerzita Vo Zvolene

WP 3 is aimed in development of conceptual design including different nature-based solutions (NbS) relevant to 5 demonstration sites conditions. The designed NbS will be associated with the specific climate threat and infrastructure vulnerabilities based on findings of WP1 and WP2 activities. Based on this, there will be provided an assessment of each demonstration site based on the integration of data on its current state with the climate projections, local ecosystem and socio-economic conditions, and based on the relevant stakeholders ‘and domain field expert’s feedback.

Beside the technical, environmental, and social considerations for each site, this task will engage the local stakeholders (identified in initial mapping) into the decision-making process and in evaluating the NbS efficiency. To involve stakeholders in the decision-making process and gather their input, insights, and recommendations, workshops, meetings, and focus groups will be organized. Their feedback will be considered to ensure inclusivity and acceptance of project outputs among local stakeholders. Additionally, general KPI metrics for the demonstrators will be developed in collaboration with stakeholders, and specific metrics will be explored for each use case. The economic and social impact of the NbS provided at the local and regional levels will be measured for validation purposes.

To successfully implement NbS in demonstration sites, it could be crucial to obtain the necessary permissions and meet regulatory requirements that may vary from country to country. To support these activities, there will be identified the specific regulatory requirements, permits, and third-party approvals needed for each demonstration site. To ensure effective management of activities related to demonstration preparation and minimize the risks associated with prolonged public procurement processes, a comprehensive public procurement strategy will be developed. This strategy aims to acquire all necessary materials, equipment, and services required for implementing NbS at each demonstration site.
