Connecting for Climate Action: The NATURE-DEMO Project at ECCA25

We are excited to share insights from Mohamed Eldessouki of DigInnoCent following his participation in the European Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA25) in Rimini, Italy, from 16-18 June 2025.

As a lead partner in the NATURE-DEMO consortium, DiggInocent plays a crucial role in developing and deploying cutting-edge digital solutions for climate resilience. Its expertise in digitalization and sustainability is directly aligned with NATURE-DEMO’s mission to create, validate, scale and support nature-based solutions (NbS) to protect European critical infrastructure against climate threats.

Mohamed’s presence at ECCA25 provided an opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange at ECCA25, which aims to foster collaboration between researchers, policymakers and practitioners on climate change impacts and adaptation.

The NATURE-DEMO project is working towards a future climate-resilient Europe, demonstrating the effectiveness of NbS through real-world case scenarios in the Alpine biogeographical region and beyond. Engaging key decision-makers at events like ECCA25 is essential for mainstreaming these innovative solutions into policy frameworks and promoting their widespread adoption.

NATURE-DEMO-ECCA25

We look forward to capitalizing on the connections and insights gained at ECCA25 to further advance the NATURE-DEMO project’s objectives and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for Europe.

Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and exciting developments in the field of nature-based solutions!

  • Bioswales: green channels that slow the flow

Bioswales are a linear rainwater run-off retention system designed as a shallow, gently sloping non-concrete channel (allowing for water infiltration). This system basically captures, retains and slowly releases the water run-off and direct rainwater into a conventional piping drainage system and/or the air (evapotranspiration) and soil (infiltration) media.

  • Rain gardens: turning autumn rain into an ally

Autumn brings long spells of rain, and with them come flooded streets, blocked drains and overloaded sewers. In a city covered by asphalt, rooftops and paving, rainwater has nowhere to soak in, so it rushes towards the drainage network all at once. Rain gardens offer a simple, attractive and evidence-based alternative.
