On September 19–20, 2026, the German Centre for Rail Traffic Research at the Federal Railway Authority (DZSF) represented the NATURE-DEMO project during Tag der Schiene 2026 (Railway Day), a major public outreach event dedicated to the future of rail transport.
As part of the project’s ongoing dissemination efforts, DZSF engaged with a diverse audience—including citizens, civil society, research communities, and end-user stakeholders—to highlight how nature-based solutions (NbS) can enhance the resilience of railway infrastructure against climate challenges.
Showcasing Planned ODTs Through Poster Presentation
Through a dedicated poster presentation, DZSF presented key insights into planned Operational Demonstration Tests (ODTs) within NATURE-DEMO. The showcase focused on innovative solutions designed to tackle critical infrastructure vulnerabilities, including:
- Erosion protection along rail embankments and corridors.
- Station cooling measures to mitigate urban heat island effects.
- Vegetation-fire mitigation strategies along railway lines.
By bridging cutting-edge scientific research with public engagement, events like Tag der Schiene provide a vital platform to demonstrate how sustainable, nature-based innovations are being deployed to build climate-resilient transport networks across Europe.
