At the recent UN Climate Meetings (SB 60) held from June 3rd to 13th in Bonn, Germany, talks focused on the progress towards limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C, discussed in COP28.
According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, May 2024 marked the 12th consecutive month of record-high global temperatures, with an average temperature of 1.52°C, indicating we are not on track to meet this goal. These critical talks are shaping the outcomes for the upcoming COP29 summit, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, 2024.
The NATURE-DEMO project highlights how rising temperatures and prolonged dry periods, both consequences of climate change, increase the risk of wildfires. A demonstrator will be created to showcase effective strategies for mitigating wildfire risks and promoting sustainable practices.
