alchemia-nova and ProPark Foundation for Protected Areas are leading the planning and design of the urban demonstrator in Brasov within the frame of the NATURE-DEMO project.
Brasov, home to 300,000 residents, faces significant environmental issues despite its beautiful forest surroundings. The city's geographical layout traps polluted air, underscoring the urgent need for green spaces that can effectively filter and improve air quality, and cool the city from within. Intensive greening promises to capture and treat stormwater, and release clean, cool air through evapotranspiration.
Building on the successful collaboration with the city of Athens, where alchemia-nova developed comprehensive technical guidelines for urban heat mitigation (check them out check them out here), we are eager to adapt and implement similar strategies in Brasov. These approaches combine efficient use of landscape design and vegetation, urban water, and architectural measures to achieve greater results.
Stay tuned as we work closely with local partners and stakeholders to implement sustainable and impactful measures. Together, we can create a healthier and more resilient future for Brasov and beyond!

NATURE-DEMO Newsletter no. 8
Our May 2026 newsletter is packed with updates on our efforts to advance nature-based solutions (NbS) for critical infrastructure. As the NATURE-DEMO project reaches its two-year milestone, we reflect on a period of intense collaboration and scientific innovation. With the successful completion of the first three Work Packages (WPs) on April 30th, the project has transitioned from a phase of digital and conceptual framework development into the real-world deployment phase.
